This post is about Localazy – a translation platform with unique features for Android developers. We initially developed it for Floating Apps and you can use it for your Android apps too. Localazy is also great for all users of Floating Apps as it helps me to improve translations, bring it to more languages and focus on…

Can’t grant permissions to FA because of “Draw over other apps”

Newer Android versions are trying to protect you against granting permissions with some overlay visible. Why? With the overlay correctly positioned on display, the developer could replace the text of the permission dialog, so you grant another (possibly more dangerous) permission instead. I’m not quite sure how anyone could achieve this reliably as the permission…

The free-form mode on Android 9

The free-form mode on Android Pie – the difference

Note: This post describes how the free-form mode works on unmodified Android from Google. It can work differently on your device based on its vendor. I would expect Samsung to alter the free-form mode in the same way as they always do. From the Beta releases of Android Pie, it looked like the free-form mode is not going…

Floating File ManagerHowever, this is not enough! It doesn't grant permission to access the added storage with the standard file access. You must switch to the newly added storage. Open the floating File Manager and tap the cog icon in the panel header. As you can see, there are two options to access the same data. In the red rectangle, it's standard file system access way. In the green rectangle, there is our newly added storage. There is a difference between them - for the standard file access way, a red icon signalizing that the storage is read-only is shown.

How to use external SD cards, USB disks and Dropbox

There is a bit of confusion about how to access external SD card. It’s visible and accessible by default, but since Floating Apps uses standard file system mechanism for accessing it, it’s read-only. For apps like Image Viewer, Music Player or Document Viewer, it’s not a problem as read-only access is good enough. For the…

Using Floating Apps on NVidia Shield and Android TV

On some devices, standard system settings don’t contain a way how to grant Draw over other apps permission which is essential for Floating Apps to work correctly. Without this permission, it’s not possible to draw floating windows. Fortunately, there is a way how to grant it by sending a specific command to the device via USB cable.…
